I.
I cried the other day just to feel alive
Time aplenty to shed a few tears when I die
Lost among whom I wasn’t
The center of myself knocked askew
II.
Reflection made no ripple upon the silent pond
Dewdrops of my love evaporated in the scorching sun
Heart upturned to distant rain that never did come
Unwrapped my presence, then saw it discarded
III.
Sense of perspective sold for loose change
Patience, a face I recognized yet looked away
Compassion ignored, deemed largely unimportant
My mind skittered free like marbles on hardwood floors
